Bach Cities and Bach Places: Sangerhausen, Saxony-Anhalt

1   Why Is Sangerhausen a Bach City?

Is Sangerhausen Bach city or Bach place? Sangerhausen is a Bach city in category C.

Almost Sangerhausen would have become a real Bach city category A. In the year 1702, that was right at the end of that half year, when Bach had returned from Lüneburg after his education, Bach was looking for a first "real" job, and he performed to the council of Sangerhausen to apply for the position as the organist there. He got the job, but the duke there decided for another applicant, his first choice. And that is why Sangerhausen became one of the Bach cities, however not a category A Bach city.

Bach Cities and Bach Places: Störmthal, Saxony, Germany

1   Why Is Störmthal a Bach Place?

Is Störmthal Bach city or Bach place? Störmthal is a Bach place in category C.

In Störmthal Bach was working during his time in Leipzig, when he inspected the new organ in the Village Church in this suburb of Leipzig. This organ was build by organ builder Zacharias Hildebrandt, a friend of Bach and an apprentice of the legendary – still today famous – organ builder Johann Gottfried Silbermann. After Bach's inspection of the organ the parish organized a festival, where Bach's cantata "Extremely desirable Fest of Joy" was performed.

3   Info About the Bach Place of Störmthal

There is a tendency to add Störmthal to the rather small Bach places in category C. But anyway, 503 residents were living here 2014. Whether this is the same number still today, is what we could ask the locals. Störmthal is part of the community Grosspösna, it's located in the county of Leipzig and that means, Störmthal is part of Saxony. Plus, Störmthal lies on the creek Schlumper. Finally there is a palace, a church and in that church there is the Hildebrandt Organ. This organ was inspected by Johann Sebastian Bach. And because he is famous, now Störmthal is famous too. That is how easy I am creating that statement. You would have liked just a little more information? Here you are, it works, as usual, with a click.
