Bach FAQ 98

Where Can You Find Music of Johann Sebastian Bach?

So it's really easy: that is why this website came into being. I stranded exactly with this question many years ago, because I was looking for a CD "Best of..." like I do it with nowadays artists. What I heard back then was perfect, okay and just acidly. This is the reason, why it needed more than a decade until the next trial finally lead to the project "Bach on Bach". How can I characterize just one of Bach's works acidly? Who am I to make such a statement? Well, it's just about the uniqueness of the artist Bach. If somebody is as good as he was, chances are, you don't like any style he composed. Plus, chances are, you really dislike some of his works. Some you might even consider acidly. It's an unbelievable statement, but it's the truth.

That is really easy: it's why my website came into being and why it's now coming into play. I stranded exactly with your current question many years ago, because I was looking for a CD "Best of..." like I do it with nowadays artists. However, what I heard on my "Best of Bach" was a mix of perfect, okay and two just acidly. This is the reason, why it needed half a decade until the next trial finally lead to the project "Bach on Bach". How can I characterize just one of Bach's works acidly? Who am I to make such a statement? Well, it's just about the uniqueness of the artist Bach. If somebody is as good as he was, chances are, you don't like any style he composed. Plus, chances are, you really dislike some of his works. Some of you might even consider some pieces acidly. It's an unbelievable statement, but it's the truth.

Here is how it works: click to my collection of the most familiar and most popular works of Bach on the basis of Google and YouTube results. Here on "Bach on Bach". What shows up on Google often as a term and a query, is popular and that means it's going to become more and more popular. I have put these familiar and popular pieces of music together. Listen to them, may be it makes sense, to listen to them three or four times. You well know, there are nowadays artists with songs out there, which need to be listened to several times until you love them. You have the option to listen to the same piece of music with several photo themes. I have made the same experience with several songs from Bach, that you "have to" listen to some works more than once, until you are excited.

This way you figure out fast, what you like most: if you prefer more stuff in the style like the Easter Oratorio or the Christmas Oratorio, the French Suites or the Brandenburg Concerts. This then is a good foundation, to listen later to more of Bach's works.. The cheapest way surely is, to check for the complete work of Bach, that is some one hundred and fifty-five CDs full of music for a relatively cheap price. From here on it gets really easy. After the CDs came in, just check on each CD. Starting with similar, what you already liked in my collection on "Bach on Bach".

If you are still excited you focus on the interpretation of what you liked most in a performance of different artists and orchestras. So you might love one piece already performed by musician A, but performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra you like it even better. However, if you have gotten so far, I am sure, you don't need my support an more. And for those, who are connoisseurs anyway, this paragraph is for starters, kids and students.
