1 Why Is Lüneburg One of the Bach Cities?

If you make a first relationship with the life of Johann Sebastian Bach and you read about Bach cities and Bach places, then everything seems to be a little confusing. Then you get the feeling, Lüneburg on the doorsteps of Hamburg in the north of Germany is "not really" a Bach city. That might be related to the fact, that Lüneburg is the only real Johann Sebastian Bach city without a Bach memorial. All other Bach cities in category A have one.

However, Johann Sebastian Bach has not just lived in Lüneburg. He has as well acted there. So much is true. Because he sang in the public and nowadays, science even pretends, he had thought about his first compositions in that time (... do you realize how careful I created these words?) Of course, he learned a lot about music there and how to perform it. In the spring of 1700 he arrived in Lüneburg, and he had a recommendation at hand. However, with his musical quality and being one of the Bache (...yes, back then the plural of Bach was Bache) he had no problem to be accepted. He attended school at the Particular School of the Lyceum of St. Michaelis Abbey, which doesn't exist anymore. In the time around Easter in 1702 he finished his era at school successfully, and it's very probable that he initially returned to Thuringia. But they are not really sure about that.
