And what I listened to – two decades ago – was great, good, and terrible. And that’s why it took a decade before my next attempt finally led to this project, Bach on Bach..
How can anyone possibly describe even one of Bach’s works as “awful”? Are you horrified? Who am I to presume to say something like that? Actually, it has to do with Bach’s brilliance. When an exceptional artist composes such a wide variety of works, it’s actually very likely that you’ll find some of them less to your liking. And that you might even find one or two of them “awful.” An unbelievable statement, but the truth nonetheless..
Here’s how it works: Click on my compilation of Bach’s best-known and most popular works, based on data from YouTube and Google. On Bach on Bach. Here’s the link. Any piece that appears frequently in the titles is popular. And thus becomes even more popular. I’ve compiled exactly these well-known and popular works. Give them a listen. Maybe even more than once. You know, sometimes you have to listen to a song by today’s artists three or four times before you really get into it. Only then do you come to love it. I myself have had this “experience with Bach as well”..
You’ll quickly figure out what you like best: whether it’s the style of the Christmas or Easter Oratorios, the French Suites, or the Brandenburg Concertos.
