How Many Works of Johann Sebastian Bach Exist Precisely?..
It's exactly 1,128 pieces!..
Or maybe not. Because there’s the original BWV … the original Bach Works Catalog. Beyond that, there are revisions, additions, and even a few pieces that were initially attributed to Bach. And later removed from the catalog. But … maybe that’s not all that important when you consider that there were roughly 1,111 + 11 + 1 works. Roughly speaking. Bach is simply a bit more complicated than other composers in every way … even in a relatively simple task like counting his works. On the other hand: The most renowned Bach scholar, author on Bach, and professor at Harvard and the University of Leipzig, Saxony, Germany believes that Bach composed many, many more works. He estimates that only ten percent of Bach’s original works have survived to this day. If that’s actually the case, that doesn’t make things more complicated for you: You’ll have to remember one position more, because then Bach would have composed about 11,111 + 111 + 11 + 1 pieces. And that would certainly be … once again … world-class in this discipline as well..
