Bach's Biography: One to Read, One to Listen to, and One to Watch..
There are actually three options on this page: first, my own offering. I offer you many options. You can listen to a nine-minute audio version of Bach’s biography. You can also watch a short video about Bach’s life. That’s also just nine minutes long. Or if you prefer something brief and to the point, there’s the "facts department". If you find the historical aspect most fascinating, there’s Bach’s life in an nocrology… written in 1750 German. But also in modern German. I believe it is important to ask: How much do you actually want to read about Bach? Would you prefer a biography, a short biography, or a “profile”? I think that varies greatly among all those interested in Bach. That’s why on Bach on Bach – that is, my site – you can read about the master’s life in 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 25 minutes, or a full 60 minutes. But what exactly makes this cross-media? How does my offering differ from others online?..
Well, first of all, it really comes down to the length of the information. You decide. That’s why there’s no “multimedia hullabaloo” with the two shorter ones..
But when it comes to the 25-minute and 60-minute versions, there are several exciting options to choose from. First, let’s look at the shorter of the two. There are two versions. First, every few chapters are supplemented with Bach music videos. You stop reading for a moment and watch – accompanied by a music piece of Bach’s – my photos of a Bach location. Or of a Bach city that fits the chapter. Just music. Just pictures. No text..
But there’s another exciting option: You can also turn on your speakers right at the start and play along with the 33 musical pieces by Bach as you read. Set the volume just high enough so that you’re not just reading a biography of Bach, but having a little “Bach experience.” The musical pieces are all “faded in” very gently. And so the ending of each piece also fades out very softly. Of course, if you play the music in the background, you won’t be able to watch the videos. You’ll have to decide which one to do first. But ... both options are exciting..

My 60-minute version of Bach’s biography is, needless to say, quite detailed. But for those who prefer this length, it really does get “right to the point.” Unlike the version above, which breaks up the chapters with Bach music videos, this version is enhanced with my Bach location videos. The difference?..
The Bach music videos don’t include any “distracting” text. Just music to listen to, just images of Bach cities and Bach locations to watch. The Bach location videos – that is, those about the Bach cities and Bach sites, as well as other topics – are different. They are actual short information films. About the topics mentioned above. A professional narrates them. They aren’t “just” photos, but also video clips. And there’s always music … and not “just by Bach.” But also modern music. The videos about the Bach cities and Bach locations are short presentations of the Bach sites. Portraits of what they look like today.
