Bach FAQ 126
Bach Cubes … is there really a counterpart to the Mozartkugel? But you’ve never heard of such a cube? Where on earth would you find something like that? Well … first of all: Yes, they do exist, the Bach Cubes. They are sweet specialties that were “invented” long, long after the Mozartkugel. However, they aren’t even a tiny fraction as well-known or as famous as the candies named after the Salzburg musical genius. But they are related: these two treats..
* Why is there an asterisk in the headline? Because I want to point out that, aside from the kind permission to publish the photos of these two special sweets, I did not receive any money, cubes or Mozartkugels. Of course not. And that’s why I wouldn’t actually have to mention it. But I’m doing so anyway. Because, “somehow,” it is indeed advertising. By the way: They taste great not only in the Mirabell Garden, but also wherever you are at home ... in my experience..
There it is, the Bach cube ... or rather: there they are, the Bach cubes. They’re part of the offerings at Konditorei Fürst in Salzburg. They spell it without the hyphen, though. So there it is called the Bach Würfel. © The author, copyright holder, and provider of the kind permission to publish the two photos above and below is the Café-Konditorei Fürst at Brodgasse 13. My heartfelt thanks once again..
Mozartkugels and Bach Cubes were “invented” by the same Cafe-Konditorei Fürst in Salzburg, which, by the way, has been in business since 1890. The Mozartkugels over 130 years ago. Paul Fürst “created” the first Mozartkugel. And they are still made today using the finest craftsmanship. Incidentally, they are the only ones allowed to call themselves “Original Salzburg Mozartkugels”, and they are still made today according to the traditional original recipe. Of course, you can order both specialties there today as well..
There’s no question that these Mozartkugels are a hundred times more famous than the still relatively new Bach cubes. © Cafe-Konditorei Fürst..
Mozartkugels and Bach Cubes from the Fürst pastry shop in Salzburg are something truly special. That’s because it was there that the grandfather of the current owner invented the Mozartkugel ... exactly 99 years after Mozart’s death. And he named the first delicious Mozartkugel “Mozart-Bonbon”. Of course, the person pictured above isn’t Paul Fürst, but the figure who is associated even more closely with Salzburg than the Mozartkugel … and that’s right, with the Bach cube..
The birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. However, that is not where the first Mozartkugel was created. © Pixabay..
Unbelievable but true: This is the birthplace of the Bach cube Salzburg, Austria. And this despite the fact that Johann Sebastian Bach never set foot in Salzburg. That ... “is really only allowed” to the inventor of the Mozartkugel ... or rather, his great-grandson. © Pixabay..
Meike Nordmeyer’s blog meikemeilen offers a warm, professional, and engaging article on the Bach Cube. However, it's German ... sorry about that. You can skip Wikipedia on this topic. By the way, there is no German Wiki on this yet. But there is an English Bach Cube Wiki. It’s worth mentioning here for the sake of completeness. Then there’s also Schammis Klassikwelt, another warm recommendation on the topic of the Bach Cube and other culinary suggestions. Also only in German Finally, the Mortimer Travel Magazine is also worth reading..
