What Is a Thomas Cantor?..
The Thomas Cantor is, first and foremost, a cantor. And a cantor is responsible for everything related to music in the church. A Thomas Cantor is a cantor only when he is the cantor in charge at St. Thomas Church. In Leipzig, the Thomas Cantor was – and still is – appointed by the city council. He also serves as the artistic director of the St. Thomas Choir in Leipzig.
